Cumbria and the Lake District
The modernisation of the castle during the C19th saw much demolition with
new
buildings taking the place of a palace building - the magazine on the left
built 1827
and the Militia store of 1881. In the background is the former officers mess
now
home to the Kings Own Border Regiment museum.
